PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Situated within Derry City’s walls, the Playhouse Theatre is one of Ireland’s leading Community Art Resource Centres.  We refurbished, restored and extended this award winning B1 Listed building to create high quality workshop spaces, a dance studio, gallery and fully equipped contemporary auditorium seating 200, as well as a cafe and bar.

AWARDS

  • Won regional heat in the BBC Restoration TV series where it revealed the remarkable progress made on reviving and renewing it and making it fit for purpose
  • Awarded the prestigious BURA (British Urban Regeneration Association) Award for “Best Practice in Regeneration”
  • Won the Royal Institute of Town Planning’s Sustainability and Regeneration Award, a first for an artscentre
  • Won overall Sustainable Planning Awards 2009, the first arts centre and the first building from the North West to win such an award.
  • William Trust Access Award for the disability accessed offered and making the new building accessible for everyone in the community
