Restoration of CastleHill Towers

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

JPM Contracts were appointed principal contractor to undertake the restoration of two 17th Century towers located on Castlehill, Dungannon.  The towers were in a state of disrepair and required structural stabilisation as well as extensive new stonework which required hand crafted tooling marks similar to that of the original structure.  The towers were completely repointed using NHL 3.5 Lime mortar, as well as a new lead roof fitted to provide protection to the inner walls of the tower.  A temporary support structure was erected during the works to ensure it remained stable.  A lime harling spray was applied to the ends of the walls to compact the stones together.  The works were completed ahead of schedule and to the original budget.  Works also included:

  • Fitting of oak beams across archways
  • Lightning Conductors
  • General Landscaping o f the surrounding area
  • Helical Anchors inserted into cracked areas
